The Apache Software Foundation has released version 6.3 of the Apache OpenMeetings web conferencing server, enabling audio and video conferences over the Web, as well as collaboration and messaging between participants. It supports both webinars with a single speaker and conferences with any number of participants interacting simultaneously. The project code is written in Java and is distributed under the Apache 2.0 license.
Additional features include tools for integration with a calendar scheduler, sending individual or bulk notifications and invitations, shared access to files and documents, maintaining a participant address book, keeping meeting minutes, collaborative task planning, streaming the output of running applications (screencast demonstrations), and conducting polls and surveys.
One server It can host an arbitrary number of conferences conducted in separate virtual conference rooms, each with its own set of participants. The server supports flexible permission management tools and a robust conference moderation system. Participant management and interaction are conducted through a web interface. MySQL and PostgreSQL can be used as the database management systems.
The new release primarily focused on bug fixes and preparations for the transition to JDK 17 (in the future, support for JRE 11 will be discontinued, and JRE 17 will become mandatory). Issues with the operation in newer versions of the Safari browser have been resolved. Libraries included in the package have been updated to their latest versions. One noticeable change is the unification of dialogs for confirming operations.
