An experimental release of the open implementation of WinAPI — Wine 7.9 has taken place. Since the release of version 7.8, 35 bug reports have been closed and 323 changes have been made.
The most significant changes:
- The translation of the macOS driver has begun to use the PE (Portable Executable) executable file format instead of ELF.
- Work has been done to eliminate crashes when running tests ('make test') on the Windows platform.
- Bug reports related to games have been closed: Lego Rock Raiders, Stellaris.
- Bug reports related to applications have been closed: Editpad Lite 7, Ulead Photo Explorer 8.5, Cxbx Reloaded, Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing 15, VTFEdit.
Additionally, the release of the GE-Proton7-18 project can be noted, in which enthusiasts create independent builds of Proton for running Windows applications that are not tied to Valve, featuring a newer version of Wine, the use of FFmpeg in FAudio, and the inclusion of additional patches addressing issues in various gaming applications. In the new version of Proton GE, the code base has transitioned to Wine 7.8, components of dxvk and vkd3d have been updated, and issues with launching the FFXIV Launcher have been resolved.
