Release of the clustered file system Lustre 2.15

The release of the Lustre 2.15 clustered file system has been published, used in most of the largest Linux clusters containing tens of thousands of nodes. The key components of Lustre include metadata processing and storage servers (MDS), management servers (MGS), object storage servers (OSS), object storage targets (OST, which works on ext4 and ZFS), and clients. The project's code is distributed under the GPLv2 license.

Key innovations:

  • The Client Directory Encryption mode has been implemented, allowing encryption of file and directory names on the client side, before the data is transmitted over the network and before being stored in object storage (OST) and metadata (MDT).
  • A User Defined Selection Policy (UDSP) mechanism has been added, enabling users to define rules for selecting network interfaces for data transmission. For example, when connections via o2ib and tcp are available, traffic transfer for Lustre can be configured to use only one of them, while the other can be utilized for other purposes.
  • Support ensured server for the kernel package from RHEL 8.5 (4.18.0-348.2.1.el8), and clients for unmodified kernels RHEL 8.5 (4.18.0-348.2.1.el8), SLES15 SP3 (5.3.18-59.27), and Ubuntu 20.04 (5.4.0-40).
