The developers of the Lubuntu distribution announced the release of the Lubuntu Backports PPA repository, which offers packages for installing the latest version of the LXQt user environment 1.1 in Lubuntu/Ubuntu 22.04. The original builds of Lubuntu 22.04 come with an outdated version of LXQt 0.17, released in April 2021.
The Lubuntu Backports repository is currently in beta testing and was created similarly to the repository featuring fresh versions of the KDE desktop, maintained by the developers of Kubuntu and KDE Neon. The official release of the backports is scheduled for July 19, unless significant issues are identified.
