The Debian project, the non-profit organization SPI (Software in the Public Interest), and the organization Debian.ch, which represents Debian's interests in Switzerland, won a dispute at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) related to the domain debian.community, which hosted a blog criticizing the project and its members, as well as publishing confidential discussions from the debian-private mailing list.
Unlike the failed similar dispute initiated by Red Hat regarding the domain WeMakeFedora.org, the claims related to debian.community were deemed valid, leading to a decision to transfer the rights to the domain debian.community to the Debian project. The formal reason for the domain transfer was the violation of the Debian trademark. The author of the debian.community site announced that he has registered a new site — "suicide.fyi" — to continue publishing critiques of Debian.
The domains debian.community and WeMakeFedora.org were used by Daniel Pocock to publish criticism regarding participants in the Debian, Fedora, and Red Hat projects. Such criticism caused dissatisfaction among members, as it was perceived by some as personal attacks. In the case of are set up correctly.
