Michail Vourlakos has announced his withdrawal from the development of the Latte Dock project, which is creating an alternative task management panel for KDE. The reason cited is a lack of free time and a loss of interest in continuing work on the project. Michail had planned to leave the project and pass maintenance to others after the release of version 0.11, but ultimately decided to leave sooner. It is still unclear if anyone will be able to take over the development, as Michail contributed the vast majority of changes. The changelog notes the activity of a few other individuals, but their contributions are minor and limited to specific fixes.
The Latte panel was created as a result of merging similar function panels — Now Dock and Candil Dock. This merger attempted to combine the separate panel approach of Candil, which works independently of Plasma Shell, with the high-quality interface design characteristic of Now Dock, and using only KDE and Plasma libraries without external dependencies. The panel is built on the KDE Frameworks and Qt library, supports integration with the KDE Plasma desktop, and implements a parabolic zoom effect for icons in the style of macOS or the Plank panel. The project's code is distributed under the GPLv2 license.
