Fifteen months after the last update, the release of the NetBSD 9.3 operating system has been published. Installation images, each 470 MB in size, are available for 57 system architectures and 16 different CPU families. Version 9.3 is fully compatible with previous releases of the 9.x branch and contains important fixes, including those related to security vulnerabilities.
Initially, a significant release of NetBSD 10.0 was planned, but due to compatibility issues related to implementing access control lists for FFS, it was decided to postpone the major release and publish an additional interim release of the 9.x branch, allowing extra time for codebase stabilization.
Key improvements in NetBSD 9.3:
- Significantly improved support for suspend/resume. Many drivers have resolved issues with locking and state preservation that occurred during suspend transitions.
- Device driver hardware support has been expanded.
- Support for new Intel gigabit Ethernet chips has been added.
- Improved support for new Intel and AMD Zen 3 chipsets.
- Compatibility with UDF (Universal Disk Format) file systems has been ensured, including fixes to achieve full compatibility with UDF partitions created in Windows 10 (considering its peculiarities and bugs).
- The sysinst installer now has the ability to configure wireless connections.
- X11 can now be launched on the Commodore Amiga platform builds,server using the wsfb driver (which utilizes framebuffer output).
- Changes aimed at improving the performance of the Xen hypervisor have been made.
