The release of the web browser Firefox 104 has taken place. Additionally, updates for long-term support branches 91.13.0 and 102.2.0 have been prepared. The Firefox 105 branch will enter beta testing in the coming hours, with a release scheduled for September 20.
Key features in Firefox 104:
- An experimental QuickActions mechanism has been added, allowing users to perform various common actions with the browser directly from the address bar. For example, commands such as addons, bookmarks, logins, passwords, and private can be entered in the address bar for quick access to managing extensions, bookmarks, saved accounts (password manager), and opening private browsing mode. When recognized, a button will be displayed in the dropdown list to navigate to the respective interface. To enable QuickActions, set browser.urlbar.quickactions.enabled=true and browser.urlbar.shortcuts.quickactions=true in about:config.
- The built-in PDF viewer interface has introduced an editing mode that offers features like drawing graphics (hand-drawn lines) and attaching text comments. Color, line thickness, and font size can be adjusted through new buttons added to the PDF viewer toolbar. To enable the new mode, set pdfjs.annotationEditorMode=0 on the about:config page.
- Similar to regulating resources allocated to background tabs, the user interface will now switch to an energy-saving mode when the browser window is minimized.
- The profiling interface has added the ability to analyze energy consumption related to website operation. The energy consumption analyzer is currently available only on systems with Windows 11 and on Apple computers with the M1 chip.
- In picture-in-picture mode, subtitles are now displayed when watching videos from Disney+. Previously, subtitles were only available for YouTube, Prime Video, Netflix, HBO Max, Funimation, Dailymotion, Tubi, Hotstar, and SonyLIV, as well as sites that use the WebVTT (Web Video Text Track) format.
- Support for the CSS property scroll-snap-stop has been added, allowing you to configure scrolling behavior with a touchpad: in 'always' mode, scrolling stops at each element, while in 'normal' mode, it allows for skipping elements during inertial scrolling gestures. Support for adjusting the scroll position after content changes has also been implemented (for example, to maintain the same position after removing part of the higher-level content).
- The Array and TypedArrays JavaScript objects have been enhanced with methods Array.prototype.findLast(), Array.prototype.findLastIndex(), TypedArray.prototype.findLast(), and TypedArray.prototype.findLastIndex(), enabling searches for elements with results based on the end of the array. - The HTMLElement.focus() method now supports the option.focusVisible parameter, which allows you to enable a visual indicator for changes in input focus.

- Stability and performance improvements for minimizing and restoring windows on Linux have been made when using the Marionette web framework (WebDriver). A touch action handler attachment capability has also been added.
- In the Android version, support for form autofill based on previously entered addresses has been implemented. The settings now allow for editing and adding addresses. Support for selective history deletion has been added, allowing users to delete browsing history from the past hour or the last two days. A crash when opening links from external applications has been fixed.
In addition to new features and bug fixes, Firefox 104 has addressed 10 vulnerabilities, 8 of which are marked as critical (6 related to CVE-2022-38476 and CVE-2022-38478), caused by memory handling issues such as buffer overflows and access to already freed memory areas. These problems could potentially allow an attacker to execute code when opening specially crafted pages.
