The release of the lightweight distribution MX Linux 21.2 has been presented, created as a result of collaboration between the communities formed around the antiX and MEPIS projects. This release is based on the Debian package base with improvements from the antiX project and packages from its own repository. The distribution uses the sysVinit initialization system and custom tools for system configuration and deployment. Both 32-bit and 64-bit builds (1.8 GB, x86_64, i386) with the Xfce desktop are available for download, as well as 64-bit builds (2.4 GB) with the KDE desktop and minimalist builds (1.4 GB) with the fluxbox window manager.
In the new release:
- Synchronization with the Debian 11.4 package base has been completed. Application versions have been updated.
- The builds with extended hardware support (AHS) utilize the Linux 5.18 kernel (the regular builds use the 5.10 kernel).
- A utility mx-cleanup has been added for cleaning up old kernel versions.
- The installer functionality has been improved.
- The mx-tweak utility has added options for disabling Bluetooth adapters and moving buttons from the top of Xfce and GTK dialogs to the bottom.
- A new utility mxfb-look has been proposed for fluxbox, allowing users to save and load theme configurations.
- Utilities for managing UEFI have been added to the mx-boot-options package.
- The mx-snapshot utility now includes the ability for automatic shutdown.
- A graphical interface for the quick-system-info utility has been added, allowing the generation of system reports to simplify troubleshooting on forums.
