The developments of the lxqt-sway project have been published, which focuses on porting the components of the LXQt user interface to work in the Sway environment and the compositing manager that uses the Wayland protocol. In its current form, the project resembles a hybrid of two environments. LXQt settings are transformed into a configuration file for Sway.
To carry out operations such as changing virtual desktops, splitting, and closing windows, additional menus have been implemented, making window management simpler and more intuitive for users accustomed to a classic window layout rather than the mosaic layout used in Sway with keyboard navigation.
An attempt has been made to port the lxqt-panel, which has yet to be completed, attempting to adapt it for Sway using the layer-shell-qt plugin from the KDE project. Instead of lxqt-panel, the lxqt-sway project currently offers a simple panel called yatbfw, created during the study of the Wayland protocol.
The implementation of Wayland in the main version of LXQt is still stalled, despite long-standing plans. However, there is a separate project, LWQt, that develops a variant of the LXQt shell based on Wayland, which utilizes the Mutter compositing manager and the QtWayland module.
