Microsoft has announced the start of testing for the release candidate of the Linux version of SQL Server 2022 (RC 0). Installation packages have been prepared for RHEL and Ubuntu. Ready container images of SQL Server 2022 based on RHEL and Ubuntu distributions are also available for download. The test release for SQL Server 2022 for Windows was created on August 23.
It is noted that in addition to general new features, SQL Server 2022 RC 0 also offers several Linux-specific enhancements. In particular, support for authentication using Azure Active Directory (AAD) has been added, the ability to change the REQUIRED_SYNCHRONIZED_SECONDARIES_TO_COMMIT parameter for distributed availability groups has been provided, and support for Azure Synapse Link analytics tools has been included (integration uses a runtime installed on a Windows system in the same network).
