The fifth corrective update of the Debian 11 distribution has been released, which includes accumulated package updates and fixes for issues in the installer. The release includes 58 updates addressing stability issues and 53 updates fixing vulnerabilities.
Among the changes in Debian 11.5, the following can be noted: updated to fresh stable versions are the packages clamav, grub2, grub-efi-*-signed, mokutil, nvidia-graphics-drivers*, nvidia-settings. The cargo-mozilla package has been added to support building new versions of firefox-esr and thunderbird. In the krb5 package, the SHA256 algorithm is used as the Pkinit CMS Digest. Support has been added in systemd for detecting ARM64 Hyper-V and OpenStack guest systems in KVM ARM systems. Twenty-two packages containing PHP libraries (including php-embed, php-markdown, php-react-http, ratchetphp, reactphp-*), which were left without maintenance and were only used in the previously removed movim package (a platform for creating decentralized social networks using the XMPP protocol), have been removed.
Installation builds have been prepared for download and installation from scratch, as well as a live iso-hybrid with Debian 11.5. Systems installed earlier and kept updated receive updates present in Debian 11.5 through the standard update installation system. Security fixes included in new Debian releases are available to users as updates are released via the security.debian.org service.
A new release of the previous stable branch Debian 10.13 "Buster" is also available, which includes 79 updates addressing stability issues and 79 updates fixing vulnerabilities. This is the final update for the Debian 10 branch, whose regular support time has expired. Further updates for the Debian 10 branch will be made not by the Debian Security Team and Debian Release Team, but by a separate group of developers called the LTS Team, formed from enthusiasts and representatives of companies interested in long-term support for Debian updates. Under the LTS cycle, updates for Debian 10 will be released until June 30, 2024, and will only be distributed for the i386, amd64, armel, armhf, and arm64 architectures.
