The release of the lightweight window manager IceWM 3.1.0 is now available. IceWM provides full control through keyboard shortcuts, supports virtual desktops, taskbars, and application menus. The window manager is configured through a fairly simple configuration file, and themes can be used. Built-in applets for monitoring CPU, memory, and traffic are available. Several third-party GUIs are also developed for customization, desktop implementations, and menu editors. The code is written in C++ and is distributed under the GPLv2 license.
In the new version, the development of the tab-based window management mechanism continues. A special indicator has been added to the window header, allowing users to see the presence of tabs and switch between them (previously, switching was done via keyboard shortcuts or menus, and tabs were not visually distinguished). It is now allowed to use a custom set of parameters (winoption) in a tab. A new window parameter 'frame' has been added for the automatic grouping of application windows with the same 'frame' value. Tab bindings are preserved after a restart. Tabs are displayed in the window list. Alt+Tab behavior for windows with tabs has been improved.
