The release of Display Server Mir 2.10 has been presented, a project that continues to be developed by Canonical, despite the discontinuation of the Unity shell and Ubuntu editions for smartphones. Mir remains in demand for Canonical projects and is now positioned as a solution for embedded devices and the Internet of Things (IoT). Mir can be used as a compositing server for Wayland, enabling the execution of any applications using Wayland (for example, those built with GTK3/4, Qt5/6, or SDL2) in Mir-based environments. Installation packages have been prepared for Ubuntu 20.04, 22.04, and 22.10 (PPA) and Fedora 34, 35, 36, and 37. The project's code is distributed under the GPLv2 license.
The new version enhances the handling of touch screen events, provides support for a new screen gesture to move windows (dragging while holding Shift, Alt, or Ctrl), adds the ability to move windows from a maximized state, implements correct pixel format selection for the X11 platform, and improves scrolling.
