The Yuzu project develops an open-source emulator for the Nintendo Switch gaming console

An update for the Yuzu project has been released, featuring an emulator for the Nintendo Switch console, capable of running commercial games designed for this platform. The project is based on developers from Citra, the emulator for the Nintendo 3DS. Development is being carried out through reverse engineering of Nintendo Switch hardware and firmware. The Yuzu code is written in C++ and is distributed under the GPLv3 license. Ready builds are available for Linux (flatpak) and Windows.

Out of 2,699 games tested in the emulator, 644 are marked with perfect support (everything works as intended), 813 have good support (some minor issues with sound and graphics may be observed), 515 are acceptable (the game is playable, but more noticeable issues with sound or graphics arise), 327 are poor (the game can be launched, but existing problems hinder a complete playthrough), 311 can only reach the splash screen/menu, and 189 crash immediately after startup.

Yuzu emulates only the hardware; a dump of the original Nintendo Switch firmware, game dumps from cartridges, and decryption keys for game files are also required, which can be obtained by booting the console into RCM mode with an external loader like Hekate. For full emulation of the console, a CPU with support for FMA SIMD instructions and 6 or more cores/threads is required (the minimum required CPUs are Intel Core i5-4430 and AMD Ryzen 3 1200, while recommended ones are Intel Core i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600), 8 GB of RAM, and a graphics card supporting OpenGL 4.6 or Vulkan 1.1 (at least NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030 2GB, AMD Radeon R7 240 2GB, Intel HD 5300 8GB, AMD Radeon R5).
