The release of the free documentation system GNU Texinfo 7.0 has been presented, originally developed by Richard Stallman and used for preparing documentation for GNU projects. GNU Texinfo defines a special markup format for structuring documentation and allows converting the source document into various formats for publishing and printing, such as PDF, HTML, DVI, Info, DocBook, XML, etc.
The new release significantly expands the capabilities of the texi2any utility, addressing encoding issues, and implementing the options ‘—latex’ and ‘—epub3’ for output in LaTeX and EPUB 3 formats. HTML output support has been greatly improved. New commands @latex, @iflatex, and @ifnotlatex have been added for LaTeX output. The info utility has enhanced support for index entries containing parentheses and improved bold text display when showing man pages.
