Oracle has released the distribution of Oracle Linux 8.7, based on the package base of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.7. Installation ISO images of 11 GB and 859 MB are available for unrestricted download, prepared for x86_64 and ARM64 (aarch64) architectures. Oracle Linux provides unrestricted and free access to the yum repository with binary package updates for bug fixes (errata) and security issues. Additionally, separately supported Application Stream modules have been prepared for download.
In addition to the kernel package from RHEL (based on kernel 4.18), Oracle Linux offers its own Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel 7, based on Linux kernel 5.15, optimized for working with Oracle's industrial software and hardware. The source code for the kernel, including separate patches, is available in Oracle's public Git repository. The Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel is installed by default, positioned as an alternative to the native RHEL kernel package, providing a range of enhanced features, such as DTrace integration and improved Btrfs support.
Aside from providing the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel R7, the functionality of Oracle Linux 8.7 and RHEL 8.7 is fully identical (the list of changes in Oracle Linux 8.7 mirrors the list of changes in RHEL 8.7).
