The release of Kali Linux 2022.4 has been announced, created based on Debian and designed for testing systems for vulnerabilities, conducting audits, analyzing residual information, and identifying the consequences of attacks by malicious actors. All original developments created as part of the distribution are distributed under the GPL license and are available through a public Git repository. Several variants of ISO images have been prepared for download, with sizes of 448 MB, 2.7 GB, and 3.8 GB. The builds are available for i386, x86_64, and ARM architectures (armhf and armel, Raspberry Pi, Banana Pi, ARM Chromebook, Odroid). By default, the Xfce desktop is offered, but KDE, GNOME, MATE, LXDE, and Enlightenment e17 are optionally supported.
Kali includes one of the most comprehensive toolsets for computer security specialists: from tools for testing web applications and penetrating wireless networks to software for reading data from RFID identification chips. It comes with a collection of exploits and over 300 specialized utilities for security checks, such as Aircrack, Maltego, SAINT, Kismet, Bluebugger, Btcrack, Btscanner, Nmap, p0f. Additionally, the distribution includes tools for accelerating password cracking (Multihash CUDA Brute Forcer) and WPA keys (Pyrit) using CUDA and AMD Stream technology, allowing the utilization of NVIDIA and AMD GPUs for computational operations.
In the new release:
- Separate images for QEMU have been created, simplifying the use of Kali with Proxmox Virtual Environment, virt-manager, or libvirt. Support for libvirt has been added to the kali-vagrant build script.
- A new build for mobile devices, Kali NetHunter Pro, has been prepared in the form of a system image for the Pine64 PinePhone and PinePhone Pro smartphones, representing a variant of Kali Linux 2 with the Phosh user interface.
- In NetHunter, the Android-based mobile environment with a collection of tools for testing systems for vulnerabilities, support for built-in Bluetooth chipsets has been added. The list of supported devices running Android 12 now includes the OnePlus 6t, Pixel 4a 5g, and Realme 5 Pro smartphones.
- The versions of the graphical environments GNOME 43 and KDE Plasma 5.26 have been updated.
- New utilities added:

- certipy - a utility for researching Active Directory certificate services.
- hak5-wifi-coconut - a user-space driver for Wi-Fi USB adapters and Hak5 Wi-Fi Coconut.
- ldapdomaindump - collects information from Active Directory via LDAP.
- peass-ng - utilities for searching for vulnerabilities in Linux, Windows, and macOS that lead to privilege escalation.
- rizin-cutter - a reverse engineering platform based on rizin.
