The U-boot bootloader, primarily used in embedded devices, integrates a TCP stack and enables remote loading by delivering boot images using the HTTP protocol. Previously, only UDP-based protocols like TFTP and NFS could be used for remote network loading. The support for HTTP loading is expected to significantly simplify the development of embedded systems, as HTTP servers are more common and familiar to developers.
A new wget command has been added for HTTP image loading in U-boot. To activate the TCP stack and the wget command, the configuration file proposes the parameters CONFIG_PROT_TCP, CONFIG_PROT_TCP_SACK, and CONFIG_CMD_WGET. Future plans include implementing HTTPS support and integration with UEFI HTTP boot.
