An experimental release of the open implementation of the Win32 API — Wine 8.1 has taken place. Since the release of 8.0, 27 bug reports have been closed and 299 changes have been made. Recall that starting from the 2.x branch, the Wine project transitioned to a version numbering scheme in which each stable release results in an increase in the first digit of the version number (7.0.0, 8.0.0), while updates to stable releases are marked with a change in the third digit (8.0.1, 8.0.2, 8.0.3). Experimental versions, developed in the process of preparing the next major release, are released with a change in the second digit (8.1, 8.2, 8.3).
The most significant changes:
- The Windows version for new prefixes has been set in Windows 10.
- Changes from code cleanup results, postponed during the freeze before the 8.0 release, have been included.
- Support for the Vulkan extension VK_EXT_hdr_metadata has been added, which is necessary for HDR functioning in games based on the Vulkan graphics API, such as Doom Eternal.
- Bug reports related to games have been closed: Dungeons, Diablo III, World of Warcraft, Overwatch, Anno 1800, GOG Galaxy.
- Bug reports related to applications have been closed: FL Studio, Free PC Audit 5.1.211.96, Snagit, AviUtl.
