Intel has opened the source code for OpenCL CPU RT (OpenCL CPU RunTime), the implementation of the OpenCL standard designed for executing OpenCL kernels on the central processor. The OpenCL standard defines the API and language extensions for organizing cross-platform parallel computing. The implementation consists of 718,996 lines of code spread across 2,750 files. The code has been adapted for integration with LLVM and will be proposed for inclusion in the main LLVM project. The source code is released under the Apache 2.0 license.
Among alternative projects that develop open implementations of OpenCL, PoCL (Portable Computing Language OpenCL), Rusticl, and Mesa Clover stand out. Intel's implementation is considered to demonstrate higher performance and provide broader functionality.
