A release of the specialized distribution Tails 5.12 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System) has been formed, based on the Debian package base and designed for anonymous internet access. Anonymous access in Tails is ensured by the Tor system. All connections, except for traffic through the Tor network, are blocked by the packet filter by default. User data storage in persistent mode uses encryption. An ISO image has been prepared that can run in Live mode, with a size of 1 GB.
In the new version:
- A button has been added to the interface for enabling/disabling Persistent Storage to delete data previously saved in this storage.
- When creating Persistent Storage, a prompt is provided with an example of a quality randomly generated password.
- Tor Browser has been updated to version 12.0.5 (not yet officially announced by the Tor project).
- The Linux kernel has been updated to version 6.1.20 with improved support for graphics cards, Wi-Fi, and other hardware.
- A new icon has been proposed for backing up Persistent Storage.
- Error messages displayed during issues with activating Persistent Storage have been improved.
- In the settings, when there are issues with activating Persistent Storage, the user is given the option to try to disable and re-enable Persistent Storage or delete the data within it.
