The SysLinuxOS 12 distribution has been released, built on the Debian 12 package base and aimed at providing a bootable live environment optimized for system integrators and administrators. Builds with GNOME (4.8 GB) and MATE (4.6 GB) desktops are available for download.
It includes a selection of pre-installed applications for network monitoring and diagnostics, traffic tunneling, VPN setup, remote access organization, intrusion detection, security testing, network simulation, and traffic analysis that can be immediately used after booting the distribution from a USB drive. Among the included applications are: Wireshark, Etherape, Ettercap, PackETH, Packetsender, Putty, Nmap, GNS3, Lssid, Packet Tracer 8.2.1, Wine, Virtualbox 7.0.2, Teamviewer, Anydesk, Remmina, Zoom, Skype, Packetsender, Sparrow-Wifi, Angry Ip Scanner, Fast-cli, Speedtest-cli, ipcalc, iperf3, Munin, Stacer, Zabbix, Suricata, Firetools, Firewalk, Firejails, Cacti, Icinga, Monit, Nagios4, Fail2ban, Wireguard, OpenVPN, Firefox, Chrome, Chromium, Microsoft Edge, and Tor Browser.
Unlike Debian 12, SysLinuxOS returns the definition of other installed operating systems through the os-prober package in the GRUB bootloader. The Linux kernel has been updated to version 6.3.8. More intuitive naming for network interfaces (eth0, wlan0, etc.) has been implemented. The environment operates in live mode but also supports installation to disk using the Calamares installer.
