After four years of development, a new stable release of the project management system Trac 1.6 has been introduced (branch 1.5 was experimental), providing a web interface for working with Subversion and Git repositories, a built-in Wiki, an issue tracking system, and a feature planning section for new versions. The code is written in Python and is distributed under the BSD license. For data storage, databases like SQLite, PostgreSQL, and MySQL/MariaDB can be used.
Trac adheres to a minimalist approach to project management and allows for the automation of routine operations with minimal impact on established developer processes and rules. The built-in wiki engine enables the use of wiki markup in the descriptions of issues, goals, and commits. It supports creating links and organizing connections between error messages, tasks, code changes, files, and wiki pages. A timeline interface is provided to track all events and activity in the project.
Plugins are available for creating news feeds, discussion forums, conducting surveys, integrating with various continuous integration systems, generating documentation in Doxygen, managing downloads, sending notifications via Slack, and supporting Subversion and Mercurial.
Among the changes in Trac 1.6:
- Support for Python 3 has been implemented.
- Compatibility with the Jinja2 3 templating engine and the MarkupSafe 2.1.0 library has been ensured. The built-in jQuery library has been updated to version 3.6.3.
- The command 'trac-admin initenv' has been added with the '--no-default-data' option to create an empty environment without reports, permission groups, and examples.
- The ability to redirect open tickets from Ticket Admin to the Milestones page has been provided.
