The next version of Firefox will alter some settings related to restoring interrupted sessions after exiting the browser. Unlike previous versions, information will be saved between sessions not only for active tabs but also for recently closed tabs, allowing users to recover accidentally closed tabs after a restart and view their list in Firefox View. By default, data about the last 25 tabs opened in the last 7 days will be saved. Data about tabs in closed windows will also be taken into account, processing the list of closed tabs in the context of all windows, not just the current one.
Additionally, Firefox 119 will introduce an updated interface for the Firefox View page, simplifying access to previously viewed content. The Firefox View page will consolidate information about active tabs, recently viewed pages, closed tabs, and tabs from other devices in one place. In a future version, Firefox View will include information about all tabs opened in any windows, and the capability to browse visiting history sorted by date or site will be added.
For a certain percentage of Firefox users, the ability to import extensions from Chrome and Chromium-based browsers has been enabled. Once activated, an option to transfer extensions will appear in the data import dialog from other browsers ('Import Data' on the page about:preferences#general). A list of 71 extensions has been compiled, mapping the IDs of identical extensions existing for both Chrome and Firefox. If extensions from this list are present during data import from Chrome, the native version for Firefox will be installed instead of the Chrome version.
Other changes include performance optimization when working with sites using the Vue.js 3.0 framework and enhancements for distributing Firefox in Snap package format. The Snap package of Firefox has implemented support for using the native file chooser dialog for Ubuntu when accessing data from other browsers, as well as support for determining available capabilities based on the installed version of xdg-desktop-portal.
