Version 1.3 of the fwmx software suite has been released, which includes the window manager (fwm), application launcher, and volume control. The xxkb is used as the layout indicator.
What's new since the last release (v1.2):
- added a root daemon to monitor battery status and manage screen brightness on laptops, along with corresponding elements on the taskbar;
- improved behavior for dragging and dropping window buttons on the taskbar;
- experimental support for the tray and widgets (incompatible with anything else), already implemented for the volume control and menu;
- a small library libfwm to facilitate application integration with the aforementioned interface;
- the calendar is now interactive;
- minor improvements in various areas.
Additionally, there is now not only a manual build from source or manual download of deb packages, but also an apt repository for automated installation and updates.
The project aims for maximum simplicity while providing necessary functionality.
Window management is supported with the ability to assign statuses such as 'always on top', 'on top when active', and simply visually highlight buttons on the taskbar. Buttons can be moved. Control over the windows themselves (not on the taskbar) is done with the mouse while pressing Super; titles and similar elements are not drawn.
The menu displays a directory tree from a specified location (or multiple locations simultaneously) in a menu and submenu structure. Regular files for launching are simply executable (chmod +x) scripts, binaries, or symbolic links to them. There is also basic support for the .desktop file format for compatibility with existing systems.
The built-in translator has gained support for Basque and Galician languages. file with a list of holidays for Russia (for the calendar) – 2023 and 2024 have been added.
The program is distributed as source code (mostly GPLv2), and there are also ready-made packages for Debian-based distributions.
