The release of the lightweight distribution MX Linux 23.1 has been published, created through the collaborative efforts of communities formed around the antiX and MEPIS projects. This release is based on the Debian package base with enhancements from the antiX project and packages from its own repository. The distribution uses the sysVinit initialization system and custom tools for system configuration and deployment. Both 32-bit and 64-bit builds (x86_64, i386) with the Xfce desktop (2.1 GB) are available for download, as well as 64-bit builds with the KDE desktop (2.5 GB) and builds (1.7 GB) with the Fluxbox window manager.
In the new release:
- Synchronization with the Debian 12.2 package base has been completed. Application versions have been updated. As in previous releases, the sysVinit initialization system continues to be used by default, while systemd can be installed as an option.
- An 'AHS Xfce' build has been added, with extended hardware support, featuring a Linux kernel 6.5 instead of 6.1, the inclusion of a new version of Mesa, and firmware updates.
- The installer has been updated, improving support for swap partition storage in a file, sleep mode transitions, and installations by OEM manufacturers.
- In the KDE build, the sddm initialization script has been updated to eliminate unnecessary restarts of the display manager.
- A script has been added for the Fluxbox window manager that shows the default active keyboard shortcuts.
