In the codebase underlying the release of the KDE Plasma 6 user environment, support for Wayland protocol extensions related to color management has been added to the KWin compositing server. In KDE Plasma 6 sessions based on Wayland, it is now possible to manage colors separately for each screen. Users can assign their own ICC profiles for each display, ensuring accurate color reproduction in applications using Wayland. Additionally, colors selected using the Color Picker application are now converted to the sRGB color space and processed considering the color profiles. Among issues yet to be resolved is the handling of color management settings for X11 applications launched via XWayland.
Among other recent changes in the KDE 6 codebase:
- The visual effect representing desktop contents as a rotating cube has been restored.
- In Spectacle, the screenshot application, modes for capturing only the active window or the window under the cursor have been added, along with an option to disable shadows in the saved screenshot.
- The Discover application manager has seen refinements to its interface: background color has been changed, alignment of application cards has been improved, sidebar behavior during searches has been modernized, screenshot presentation for programs has been enhanced, and an access indicator to the audio subsystem has been added for Flatpak applications.
- The Overview mode now features full searching capabilities through KRunner, rather than just searching among window titles.
- The ability to unlock the screen using a smart card or fingerprint has been added.
- The dialog title style for settings used in QtWidgets-based applications has been aligned more closely with the design of the system configurator and applications based on the Kirigami framework.
- The KFontView font viewer has been adapted for use in Wayland-based environments.
- The settings section responsible for hotkeys has been redesigned.
- The performance with recently opened documents in KRunner has been accelerated by more than twice.
- In the Elisa music player, single-click playback of tracks has been enabled instead of requiring a double-click.
