The release of LXQt 1.4 (Qt Lightweight Desktop Environment) has been presented, developed by a joint team of LXDE and Razor-qt project developers. The LXQt interface continues to follow the ideas of classic desktop organization, bringing modern design and techniques that enhance usability. LXQt is positioned as a lightweight, modular, fast, and user-friendly continuation of the Razor-qt and LXDE desktops, incorporating the best features of both environments. The code is hosted on GitHub and is available under GPL 2.0+ and LGPL 2.1+ licenses. Precompiled packages are expected for Ubuntu (LXQt is offered by default in Lubuntu), Arch Linux, Fedora, openSUSE, Mageia, FreeBSD, ROSA, and ALT Linux.
- The necessary files for displaying the menu are now distributed in the new lxqt-menu-data package, which has replaced the previously used lxmenu-data package from the LXDE project.
- In the PCManFM-Qt file manager, the ability to define a command for invoking the terminal emulator has been added. It now retains the state of the dual-panel mode when restoring a tab in the last window. The mount dialog now saves password and anonymity settings.
- The QTerminal terminal emulator has added a Falco color scheme, implemented mouse button replacement options similar to Putty, and offered the option to emit a sound when processing the special character with code 0x07 ('\a').
- Initial support for color spaces has been added to the image viewer.
- The plugin for executing arbitrary commands has been updated to display output in the form of an image.
- In the session manager, the environment for activating DBus has been updated, resolving issues with applications that set the DBusActivatable property, such as Telegram.
- As with previous releases, LXQt 1.4 continues to be based on the Qt 5.15 branch, for which official updates are released only under a commercial license, while unofficial free updates are provided by the KDE project. The porting to Qt 6 is nearing completion, and barring unforeseen issues, the next release of LXQt will be based on Qt 6.
