Douglas DeMaio, the SUSE manager responsible for marketing and community engagement for openSUSE, announced a decision to hold an additional vote on the logo selection, made in response to criticism from project participants regarding the voting process and the lack of an option to retain the current logo. The logo contest was conducted considering the votes of all interested parties, regardless of their involvement in development, including individuals unrelated to openSUSE, which did not fully account for the collective identity of the developers.
During the discussion, it was proposed to give openSUSE project participants the opportunity to influence the choice of the new logo. It was also mentioned that SUSE, the owner of the current logo rights, should be involved in the decision-making process regarding rebranding and trademark issues. Ultimately, it was decided to allow project participants to express their opinions, for which a separate vote among openSUSE project members will be held to choose between the existing logo and the proposed new design.
