On December 23, another release was made public – the last one this year – of the popular free planetarium Stellarium, visualizing the realistic night sky as if you were looking at it with the naked eye, through binoculars or a telescope.
In total, there are 91 changes made between the current version and the previous one (433 changes in total within the planetarium this year), among which the following key updates can be highlighted:
- New plugin 'Lens Distortion Evaluator' (experimental).
- New sky culture: Tibetan.
- Changes in the graphical interface: ability to change the appearance via a style file.
- A new MESA has been added to the Windows package.
- Support for ARM64 architecture builds has been added for Windows.
- Performance improvements on macOS for ARM64.
- Support for the origin of names of surface features on Solar System bodies has been added.
- Improvements in the 'Astronomical Calculations' plugins and tools.
Among this year's changes, the following can also be noted:
- adding support for discovery information for Solar System bodies and some deep space objects;
- vectorization of markers for deep space objects;
- significant changes in the 'Observation Lists' tool.
