The release of the desktop-oriented distribution GhostBSD 24.01.1 has been published, built on FreeBSD 14-STABLE and offering a MATE desktop environment. The community also produces unofficial builds with Xfce. By default, GhostBSD uses the ZFS file system. It supports both Live mode operation and installation on a hard disk (using the custom installer ginstall, written in Python). Boot images are created for the x86_64 architecture (2.5 GB).
In the new version:
- Synchronization with the FreeBSD 14-STABLE branch has taken place (the previous version used the FreeBSD 13.2-STABLE branch).
- In the installer, the created user now receives administrator rights, and the password specified for this user is also set for the root user.
- The Update Station application has added the ability to upgrade the system to the next major branch, meaning you can now upgrade GhostBSD from a version based on FreeBSD 13.2-STABLE to a version based on FreeBSD 14.0-STABLE.
