CodeWeavers has released CrossOver 24.0, based on Wine code and designed to run Windows applications and games. CodeWeavers is a key contributor to the Wine project, sponsoring its development and returning all innovations made for its commercial products to the project. In the new version:
- The codebase has been updated to Wine 9.0 (the previous release used Wine 8.0.1).
- The Wine Mono engine implementing the .NET platform has been updated to release 8.1.
- The vkd3d package implementing Direct3D 12, which operates through call translation to the Vulkan graphics API, has been updated to version 1.10.
- The MoltenVK package implementing the Vulkan API over the Metal framework has been updated to version 1.2.5.
- The user interface has been improved. Drag-and-drop mode has been added to move executable files into CrossOver for launching or installation.
- Support for changing the directory for storing application files has been implemented, which can be used, for example, to place large Windows applications on an external drive.
- In the macOS build, support for the games Horizon Zero Dawn, Anno 1800, Planet Zoo, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, and Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition has been enhanced.
- In the Linux build, support for Office 365 installers has been provided, and crashes when launching PowerPoint 2016/365 have been resolved.
