After two years of development, the new major version of MClient has been released — a program for viewing electronic dictionaries. It is aimed at professional linguists but can also be used by anyone studying foreign languages. Status — beta, but stable enough for everyday use.
How does this program differ from GoldenDict and most others?
- tabular view;
- sorting dictionary entries by various criteria, prioritization and blocking of specific themes (most similar programs with a graphical interface use web engines and do not differentiate between adjacent dictionary entries, i.e., they act like browsers);
- quick processing of individual dictionary entries using hotkeys (navigation using mouse or keyboard, copying cells and individual blocks, copying URLs of cells and articles, if available) – in GoldenDict you can only select character by character and copy the required fragment;
- support for Ctrl-C-C and Ctrl-Ins-Ins for quick text insertion from third-party applications (e.g., from a web browser, terminal, or text editors/processors);
- priority support for multitran.com (support for offline dictionaries is worse than in GoldenDict);
- various small features, for instance, the history window opened by F4 can also be closed with the same key, and the program window minimizes after copying terms from the article (optionally).
New features include:
- transition to Qt6;
- changes in logic that have sped up the program's operation and simplified support;
- limiting the height of the line for excessively long dictionary entries (currently, a pop-up window is shown for them); in the future, a full view of cells will be provided as an option;
- initial support for the demo version of Multitran (offline) with 1 million terms (currently only English-Russian direction, some articles and terms are not visible);
- transition to JSON format for the configuration file;
- revised prioritization/blocking of themes and viewing history;
- other minor improvements.
