After more than a year of development, the release of the Live distribution grml 2024.02, based on the Debian GNU/Linux package base, has been published. The distribution includes a collection of programs for processing text data using the texttools package and for tasks commonly encountered by system administrators (data recovery after a failure, incident analysis, etc.). The graphical environment is built using the Fluxbox window manager. The size of the full ISO image is 915 MB, and the reduced version is 508 MB.
In the new release:
- Package synchronization with the Debian Testing repository has been completed as of February 26. The Linux kernel has been updated to version 6.6.
- The grml-hwinfo now includes output from the inxi utility, and the ethtool utility is utilized for retrieving information about network devices.
- Initial support for the ARM64 (Aarch64) architecture and the upcoming release of Debian 13 (trixie) has been added to the grml-live build toolkit. Boot options used in syslinux and GRUB have been unified.
- Support for ARM64 architecture and EFI has been added to grml-debootstrap during boot. virtual machines.
- Included packages are dhcpcd, f3, fwupd, lolcat, lz4, pixz, toilet, and udisks2.
- Packages dmraid, dstat, fai-server, fakeroot, firmware-ath9k-htc, and iso-codes have been removed, mainly due to maintenance issues or discontinuation of dependencies.
