IBM has announced that its latest fourth-generation FlashCore Modules (FCM4) have a built-in malware protection system operating at the firmware level. This new technology is closely integrated with Storage Defender. Now, all data flows in FCM are analyzed in real-time, and then suspicious activities are identified using an AI model. Previously, protection in IBM FlashSystem storage operated at the block level and utilized local software with known attack data, supplemented by a cloud-based AI service to identify anomalies in the behavior of drives that could indicate the onset of an attack. Such anomalies include, for example, attempts for mass data encryption ransomware attacks. With this approach, attackers could have enough time to cause damage.
