It should be noted that Broadcom acquired this virtualization developer in November 2023 for $69 billion. Following the merger, VMware's structure was modified to form four key divisions. Broadcom cancelled perpetual licenses, transitioned all products to a subscription model, and drastically reduced the product range. Notably, the distribution of free versions of the vSphere ESXi 7.x/8.x hypervisor has been halted. Concurrently, discounts have been eliminated and the approach to partner interactions has changed. All of this has led to dissatisfaction among some clients, some of whom have begun exploring alternative solutions.
