The developers of the Raspberry Pi project have released updated builds of the Raspberry Pi OS distribution 2024-03-15 (Raspbian), based on the Debian 12 package base. The composite manager Wayfire, based on the Wayland protocol, is used by default for Raspberry Pi 4/5 boards, while the X server with the Openbox window manager is used for other boards. The multimedia server Pipewire is utilized for sound management. About 35,000 packages are available in the repository.
Three builds are prepared for download — a minimal one (404 MB) for server systems, a basic desktop version (1.1 GB), and a full version with an additional set of applications (2.8 GB), available for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. An update for the old edition of Raspberry Pi OS (Legacy), based on the Linux kernel 6.1 and the Debian 11 package base, has also been created.

- Support for updating EEPROM has been added to raspi-config.
- The opening of the Bluetooth and network management menus has been accelerated.
- Widget display has been improved when using a dark theme.
- Compatibility with alternative window managers has been enhanced.
- Browsers Chromium 122.0.6261.89 and Firefox 123 have been updated.
Additionally, it is worth noting the ability to overclock Raspberry Pi 5 boards by increasing the CPU clock frequency from 2.4 GHz to 3.14 GHz. Initially, the firmware did not allow the frequency to exceed 3 GHz, but in the latest firmware update, this limitation has been removed, allowing users to set values above 3 GHz. According to user feedback, stable operation during stress testing is achieved when setting the frequency to 3.14 GHz and using active cooling. Higher values tend to cause instability.
