The expansion of AI technology usage and the increasing demand for data center computing power will lead to a rise in copper demand of 1 million tons per year by 2030, reports Reuters, citing a study by Trafigura. Trafigura asserts that the transition to renewable energy sources, the implementation of AI technologies, and programs aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions, including phasing out internal combustion vehicles in favor of electric cars, will exacerbate copper supply shortages. It is expected that global copper demand will be approximately 26 million tons this year. According to a January study by Reuters, this exceeds market supply by 35,000 tons. Agency analysts expect the copper deficit to grow to 100,000 tons by 2025.
