Matthew Kosarek, a developer from Canonical, proposed the start of the formation of official Spin builds of Fedora Linux with a user environment based on the Miracle window manager, utilizing the Wayland protocol and components to build composite managers with Mir. The Spin edition of Fedora with Miracle is planned to be delivered starting with the release of Fedora Linux 41. The proposal has not yet been considered by the FESCo (Fedora Engineering Steering Committee), which is responsible for the technical development of the Fedora distribution.
The goal of creating the new build is to develop a functional and elegant user environment with a tiling window layout inspired by the i3 window manager, along with more vibrant graphics and visual effects. A key advantage of this new Fedora build is the emergence of a high-quality environment based on Wayland, which can be utilized across a wide range of devices, including low-power devices with ARM and x86 architecture processors.
