The release of Daphile 24.05, based on Gentoo Linux and designed to create a system for storing and playing a music collection, which replaces a computer without a screen, has taken place. Playback and collection management is done through a specially created web interface. A version with a standard Linux kernel (329 MB) and a build with real-time components (319 MB) is available for download.
The distribution can operate as an audio server, network-attached storage (NAS) and a wireless access point. It supports playback from internal drives, network streaming services, and external USB drives. To ensure maximum sound quality and create multi-zone audio systems, the computer running Daphile can connect to analog amplifiers via USB digital-to-analog converters.
In the new version:
- LMS (Lyrion Music Server) 8.5.2, Perl 5.38, and Linux kernel 6.6 have been updated. GCC 13.2 has been used for the build.
- Plugins for integration with services Spotty 4.10.1, TIDAL 1.4.6, Qobuz 3.5.0, Deezer 2.81.4, and YouTube 0.212 have been updated.
- Support for Mysqueezebox.com has been removed.
- The Crypt::Blowfish module has been added, which has improved the performance of the plugins.
- The ability to save audio CD content in WAV format has been added.
- The library containing information about artists and music tracks, CDDB, has been replaced with Gnudb.
- Support for accessing external network drives via SMB3 and WebDAV protocols has been added.
- The automatic selection of the web interface's color theme based on the theme chosen for the device has been implemented.
- The LZMA algorithm has been used to compress kernel modules and firmware files, while Zstd has been used to compress the SquashFS root image.
