The experimental release of the open implementation of the Win32 API — Wine 9.9 has taken place. Since the release of 9.8, 38 bug reports have been closed and 246 changes have been made.
The most significant changes:
- Compatibility of the ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) library with the WoW64 mode (64-bit Windows-on-Windows) has been ensured, allowing 32-bit Windows applications to run on 64-bit Unix systems.
- CPU detection has been improved on ARM architecture platforms.
- The implementation of WineD3D has been cleansed of outdated features, such as the offscreen_rendering_mode setting, ARB shader backend, an unused old rendering method to the screen (render_offscreen), and ARB_texture_rectangle textures.
- Support for the Vulkan graphic API has been updated to version 1.3.285.
- Bug reports related to the operation of applications have been closed: Password Memory 2010, Paint.NET 3.5.11, Exact Audio Copy, Opentrack.
- Bug reports related to the operation of games have been closed: Final Fantasy XI Online, Shadowgrounds Survivor, Crysis2, Racer, Dweebs and Dweebs 2, Batman and Head Over Heels, Syberia, Cybernoid 2, Prince of Persia 3D, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Total War: Shogun 2, Moorhuhn Director’s Cut, Visual novel RE:D Cherish, FlatOut 1, FlatOut 3, Spelunky, Project Diablo 2, Disney Ratatouille.
Additionally, the Wine Staging 9.9 release has been formed, providing extended Wine builds that include not fully ready or risky patches, which are currently unsuitable for inclusion in the main Wine branch. Compared to Wine, Wine Staging offers 427 additional patches. The new Wine Staging release has been synchronized with the Wine 9.9 codebase and vkd3d. In the new version, the vkd3d-latest patches (integration of the latest version of vkd3d) and ntdll-Junction_Points (implements features needed in the installers for MS Office 365 and .NET Framework 4.0) have been updated.
