Canonical has announced the readiness of Real-time Ubuntu 24.04 builds, optimized for real-time task execution. The builds utilize the Linux 6.8 kernel with RT patches ("Realtime-Preempt", PREEMPT_RT, or "-rt"), ensuring reduced latency and achieving predictable event processing times. Additional optimizations are included to enhance performance and decrease latency on Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 boards, as well as systems based on Intel Core processors that support TCC (Time Coordinated Computing) and TSN (Time-Sensitive Networking) technologies.
The ready-made builds have been created for the x86_64 and Aarch64 architectures and are distributed through the Ubuntu Pro service, which is paid for commercial use. For personal use, there is a free connection option to Ubuntu Pro for up to 5 machines (50 machines for Ubuntu Community members).
