Today, Windows computers around the world faced a blue screen of death (BSOD). The cause lies in CrowdStrike software, whose head, George Kurtz, reported on X, stating that the company is "actively working with clients affected by the ", discovered in a content update for Windows machines." He also emphasized that machines running Mac and Linux were unaffected and that the incident was not a cyberattack. Microsoft reported that it has partially restored operations of its services.

"The error has been identified, isolated, and a fix has been deployed," Mr. Kurtz stated. In the comments on his post, users on X reminded that, as shown by years of experience, large-scale updates should ideally not be released on Fridays. The failure was triggered by CrowdStrike Falcon Sensor's cyberattack protection systems.
At Microsoft, which poorly updated its Azure cloud configuration and thus added fuel to the fire of today’s failure, reports indicate that some services have already been restored—Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft OneNote, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online, Windows 365, Viva Engage, and Microsoft Purview are back in operation. Issues persist with PowerBI, Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft Teams, and the Microsoft 365 admin center.

"The situation with Microsoft once again highlights the importance of substituting foreign software, especially in critical information infrastructure sectors," stated the Ministry of Digital Development. There have been no reports of failures in any Russian systems.
Meanwhile, reports continue to come in from around the world regarding today’s failure, which stemmed from incidents in CrowdStrike and Microsoft. In the airports of Berlin, Amsterdam, Australia, and Spain, passengers began to be manually checked in due to non-functioning IT systems; there were noted failures in the booking systems of Turkish Airlines and several Indian airlines.

Broadcasting had to be interrupted by the British channel Sky News and Indian NDTV, with difficulties reported by Australia’s Channel 10 and ABC. Problems arose at the London Stock Exchange, Lloyds Bank, and payment systems Visa and Mastercard. There were also reports of failures in emergency services in some countries. CrowdStrike’s stock plummeted by 16.5% to $287.3, resulting in a $13 billion loss in market capitalization.
