A new version of the Tails distribution has been released, designed for privacy and anonymity. Version 6.6 is based on the latest version of the Debian GNU/Linux 12 'Bookworm' operating system and uses the Linux 6.1 LTS kernel, which will be supported until December 2026.
Key changes
- Support for new hardware. Improved support for new hardware, including graphics and Wi-Fi. This allows Tails to be used on more modern devices.
- Detection of new types of errors. Added the ability to detect new types of errors when first launching Tails from a USB drive and when resizing the system partition fails.
- Improvement of the Additional Software application. The Additional Software application is now more stable and does not crash when installing virtual packages.
Enhancements in Persistent Storage
- Increased timeout. The maximum timeout when unlocking Persistent Storage has been increased to 4 minutes before returning an error.
- Preventing settings from hanging. Fixed the issue of Persistent Storage settings hanging after opening a documentation link.
- Improvement of Persistent Storage creation. Increased reliability of Persistent Storage creation after the first launch of Tails from a USB drive.
Additional improvements
- Multiple network interfaces. Restored the ability to enable multiple network interfaces.
- Connecting to the Tor network. Fixed the issue of connecting to the Tor network using standard bridges.
- Improvement of Tails Cloner. Removed the 30-second timeout when installing via cloning.
- Software updates:
- Tor Browser has been updated to version 13.5.2.
- Mozilla Thunderbird has been updated to version 115.14.0.
- Various minor bug fixes have been implemented to enhance overall system stability.
