The release of 4MLinux 46.0 is now available, a minimalist user distribution that is not a fork of other projects and uses a graphical environment based on JWM. 4MLinux can be utilized not only as a live environment for multimedia playback and user tasks but also as a recovery system and a platform for running LAMP servers (Linux, Apache, MariaDB, and PHP). A live image (x86_64) with a graphical environment (1.5 GB) and a version with a stripped console environment (16.5 MB) are prepared for download.
In the new version:
- Updated package versions: Mesa 24.0.4, LibreOffice 24.8, AbiWord 3.0.5, GIMP 2.10.38, Gnumeric 1.12.57, Firefox 124.0, Chrome 128, Thunderbird 115.12.2, Audacious 4.4, VLC 3.0.21, SMPlayer 24.5.0, Wine 9.12, BusyBox 1.36.1, Perl 5.38.2, Python 3.11.8, and Ruby 3.3.0.
- GTK 4 library has been included in the distribution for the first time.
- The separation into server and application builds has been removed, and the contents of 4MServer have been integrated into a single universal build.
- Support for EMF (Windows Enhanced Metafile) images and raw formats used in digital cameras (CRW/CR2, NEF, RAF, DNG) has been added.
- Support for older sound formats used on Amiga and Commodore computers has been significantly improved.
- Included are: programs for CD/DVD authoring — DVDAuthor and VCDImager, an application for testing webcams — qv4l2. The GamePack features the classic game GNU Go.
