An experimental release of the open implementation of the Win32 API — Wine 9.17 has been published. Since the release of 9.16, 29 bug reports have been closed and 206 changes have been made.
The most significant changes:
- Support for scaling window surfaces on high pixel density screens (High DPI) has been implemented.
- The built-in Vkd3d package with Direct3D 12 implementation has been updated to version 1.13.
- The Wine Mono engine with .NET platform implementation has been updated to release 9.3.0. The development of the Mono project has been handed over from Microsoft to the Wine community.
- Improved CPU detection on ARM64 architecture systems.
- Support for email attachments when sending emails has been added to the mapi32.dll.so library.
- Support for binding file extensions to various launch handlers has been implemented in cmd.exe (for example, *.pl files are now handled as scripts rather than executable files).
- Bug reports related to application performance have been closed: Foxit Reader 8.2, R-Link 2 Toolbox, Mavimplant 1.0, Kundenkartei 5, python-3.1.3.amd64.msi, scoop, OpenKiosk, Nexus ECU Tuning Software, SBCL 2.3.4, eFilm Workstation 2.x/3.x, Hogia Hemekonomi, WPF, Quicktime 3.02.
- Bug reports related to game performance have been closed: Starcraft Remastered, Constantine, Epic Games Store, the Sven Bømwøllen series of games.
Additionally, a release of the Wine Staging 9.17 project has been formed, providing extended Wine builds that include incomplete or risky patches not yet suitable for acceptance into the main Wine branch. Compared to Wine, Wine Staging provides 354 additional patches. In the new release of Wine Staging, synchronization with the Wine code base 9.17 has been achieved and fresh changes from vkd3d have been transferred. Three patches implementing support for file associations in cmd.exe and the possibility of launching xdg-email in winemapi for attaching email attachments have been moved to the main Wine composition. The vkd3d-latest and odbc32-fixes patch sets have been updated.
