The release of Input Leap 3.0.0, which develops the software KVM switch (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) that allows you to use one keyboard and mouse to control multiple computers over a network, simulating a physical connection to the system, is now available. Input Leap separated from the Barrier project in 2021 due to issues maintaining the latter. Barrier, in turn, was created as a fork of the Deskflow project, which continues to develop actively. The code for these projects is written in C++ and is distributed under the GPLv2 license.
To use Input Leap, all you need to do is install the package on the systems you want to manage and on the computer where the user is physically located. The same application is launched on all systems, but on the system with the keyboard and mouse, it switches to mode server. Management of systems based on Linux, Windows, macOS, and FreeBSD is supported. Shared clipboard usage is possible.
Input Leap 3.0.0 is the first significant release after the fork. A key improvement in the new version is the implementation of the ability to work in environments based on the Wayland protocol (streaming capabilities in XWayland are still limited). With the development of Wayland support, remote management tools based on Input Leap were previously integrated into GNOME 45. Among the changes in Input Leap 3.0.0, there is also the possibility of building using Qt 6, support for selecting the Qt branch (5.x or 6.x) during building, and the addition of new converters for X11 that allow transferring images through the clipboard in png, tiff, jpg, and webp formats.
