The release of the composite server Hyprland 0.44 utilizing the Wayland protocol has been published. The composite server is focused on tiling window management but also supports traditional freeform window placement, tab grouping of windows, a pseudo-tiling mode, and full-screen window expansion. Features for creating visually appealing interfaces are supported, such as gradients in window borders, blurring, animation effects, and shadows. Functionality can be extended with plugins, and for external control, IPC based on sockets is provided. The code is written in C++ and is distributed under the BSD license.
Configuration is performed through a configuration file, with changes being applied instantly without restarting. To enhance gaming performance, there is an option to disable vertical synchronization (VSync) with frame-suppressing impulses, which is used to prevent tearing during output. Also notable is support for dynamically created virtual desktops, two built-in element layout modes on the screen, and a global hotkey handling system.
In the new version:
- Support has been added for the Wayland single-pixel-buffer protocol, allowing the creation of single-pixel buffers that include four 32-bit RGBA values.
- The options ‘—systeminfo’ and ‘—version’ have been added to display system information (for inclusion in bug reports) and to show the version number of Hyprland.
- The configuration parameter ‘layerrule’ has been enhanced with the ‘order’ property for layer grouping configuration.
- The environment variable HYPRLAND_CONFIG has been added for passing configuration parameters without using the ‘—config’ option.
- The window management mode Dwindle has been added with the command nmovetoroot and the setting split_bias.
- An automatic grouping mode configuration option has been provided.
- A new submap query has been added to the hyprctl utility, along with expanded capabilities for the monitors and workspacerules queries.
