Linus Torvalds has expressed new criticism regarding the maintenance methods of Bcachefs in the main Linux kernel. The essence of the complaints boils down to the fact that Kent Overstreet, the author of Bcachefs, always sends numerous changes at the last moment before the release of another release candidate (‘-RC’), and this time his changes led to a build failure of 6.12-RC1 on systems with a ‘big-endian’ byte order when Bcachefs is enabled, as the patches were only tested in Kent's local branch and other participants were not involved in their review.
As a result, the pull request was accepted, but a discussion arose regarding testing, continuous integration systems, and community interaction, where several people pointed out that Kent apparently has issues in collaborating with other developers and believes he is always right, which creates problems for the project in the main kernel body. Linus warned Kent that he is considering simply removing Bcachefs from the main kernel, as Kent continues to play alone in his sandbox, does not engage in collaboration, and refuses to accept the community's rules of engagement.
